Several people hospitalized following stabbing, shooting in downtown Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY — Six people have been hospitalized following a stabbing and shooting in downtown Salt Lake City on Tuesday. According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, officers have detained three people in relation to the stabbing.
During a press conference, Brent Weisberg with the SLCPD said three people were stabbed and one person was shot in a confrontation Tuesday afternoon. Two other people were also injured, though they weren’t shot or stabbed.
Police said the injuries ranged from minor to severe. The person who was shot is in critical condition.
Weisberg said a fight erupted outside of the Neil O’Donnell Funeral Home just before 1:30 p.m. He called it a “chaotic scene.”
According to Weisberg, a big group of people was inside the funeral home for an event.
Community members who witnessed the incident reported it to police.
Police have shut down 100 South between 300 and 400 East. The area around 49 West Broadway is also closed as police continue their investigation.
According to Weisberg, police found a car with a gun inside it near 49 West Broadway. He said the SLCPD was working to get a warrant to seize the weapon.
Weisberg said there is no danger to the community.
