SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Highway Patrol has reported a total of 16 car crashes on I-15 and I-80 in Salt Lake County this morning.
Chris Bishop with UHP stated the majority of these crashes are single vehicle crashes. Currently, the crashes have only produced minor injuries to those involved.
In a post on X, UHP have also asked people to delay travel until weather conditions improve.
Other road conditions to know about
The Salt Lake City National Weather Service has asked people to delay travel if possible. Heavy graupel and thundersnow has been reported to be hitting the valley, causing slippery road conditions.
Slippery road conditions caused by the graupel and thundersnow should be brief, according to SLCNWS.
Approved traction devices are required for all vehicles throughout the mouth of Big Cottonwood. Those traction devices are needed for both directions at SR 190 from milepost 2 to milepost 20. UDOT says this should change on March 28 around 9:20 p.m.
The mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon is also requiring traction devices in both directions on SR 210 from milepost 4to milepost 13. UDOT says this should also change on March 28 around 9:20 p.m.
Weather forecast
UDOT has stated on its website that the Northern & Central Wasatch areas will be affected by the weather. UDOT also stated the impacted routes will likely be above 5,000 feet.
Most of the bad weather conditions should have moved through Utah on Sunday morning. There may be some light snowfall throughout the rest of the day in high elevation areas.
National Weather Service said Utah should see some more graupel in the afternoon and evening hours.
This story will be updated throughout the day as weather and road conditions change.
