SALT LAKE CITY — Two men were shot, and one was hospitalized after a scuffle that began on the Meadowbrook TRAX platform in Millcreek Thursday afternoon. The Utah Transit Authority released a photo of a suspect on Friday and asked for the public’s help in identifying him.
The scuffle moved from the TRAX platform to the railroad tracks, and during the confusion, two men were shot.
UTA spokesman Carl Arky said one of the men was hospitalized in critical condition, and another had serious injuries.
By late Thursday afternoon, the UTA and others in law enforcement were looking for a third person.
“West Valley, Salt Lake PD … Unified Police, they’re all looking right now,” Arky said.
Arky said that, overall, the agency was lucky that the shooting didn’t happen on the rails or, on a train.
“We’re grateful that everybody else is okay,” he said. “There were people who witnessed this, but nobody else was injured.”
The fight, and then the shooting, happened during peak operating hours on Thursday. Arky said that his team is prepared to handle these types of incidents.
“Not necessarily shootings, but interruptions of service, we’re used to handling,” he said.
UTA had a bus bridge in place to transport passengers from Millcreek to Murray, and back. As of 8:53 p.m., the bus bridge has been cancelled and trains are resuming service in Meadowbrook. UTA said to expect delays up to 30 minutes on all TRAX lines.
