Willard City Police Department warns public of lottery scam

WILLARD, Utah — The Willard City Police Department is asking for help from the public, as they try to find individuals involved in a lottery scam.
They said in a Facebook post that they are gathering information on a robbery and scam case. They first learned of the lottery scam on Tuesday, April 16 at 4:30 p.m., when it occurred in the parking lot of a Flying J.
“It was reported to officers that these individuals will come up to you and state that they had just won the lottery,” the department said. “The individuals will then ask you how much money you have.”
After that, the scammers are allegedly telling people they’ll double the money, and offer $200.
“Once you pull out your money, one person will count the money and the other person will assault you. The individuals will then take off with your money,” authorities said.
The department said people should be extra cautious when they are at gas stations.
They ask anyone to report anything related to this scam to the Box Elder Communications Center or call the Willard City Police Department.
