SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a man for allegedly kidnapping and holding a woman against her will Saturday.
According to a press release, the investigation began at 9:38 a.m. when police received reports of “suspicious circumstances” involving a woman and domestic abuse in the Yalecrest Neighborhood.
Through the investigation, SLCPD officers learned the suspect, Daymian Martiez-Hughes, 51, had taken the woman’s keys and phone. He was also preventing her from leaving a house near 1500 E. Laird Ave.
Following this police secured the area and began negotiating with Mariez-Hughes. However, he would not come out of the house or let the woman leave.
Police requested the assistance of SLCPD’s SWAT team.
Eventually, police say Mariez-Hughes surrendered and released the woman.
Mariez-Hughes has been taken in to custody on charges of kidnapping, damaging or interfering with a communications device and interfering with a peace officer.
