SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Transportation will repave portions of State Street in Salt Lake City. There will be parking restrictions, side street closures and uneven pavement during the construction.
According to UDOT, it will repave the stretch of State Street between 400 South and 3000 South, but it’ll split the construction into two parts.
The first part, from 1700 South to 3000 South, started this week and will last about two weeks.
The second part of the construction, happening from 400 South and 1700 South, starts in mid-to-late June and also take about two weeks.
What should drivers expect?
UDOT said most of the construction work will be done at night between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., but that some utility work will happen during the day.
Drivers in the area should expect “minor delays,” UDOT said.
During the daytime, drivers can expect some lane closures. In the nighttime, UDOT said it might reduce the road to one lane.
Business access will stay open except during milling and paving operations which should be brief.
Additionally UDOT said loose gravel can be expected. To help minimize damage UDOT asks drivers to reduce speed and increase distance between cars.
Cyclists and pedestrians can expect shoulder closures along State Street during the project.
What about public transit?
According to UDOT some public transit routes may be impacted stating, “When crews conduct work where the UTA S-Line crosses State Street, additional lanes closures may be needed, and trail detour routes will be in place. ”
Routes and schedules should be checked before travelling. Additionally UDOT said more details will be provided as work gets closer.
