SCOTUS rejects settlement with Oxycontin manufacturer

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a nationwide settlement with Purdue Pharma, an Oxycontin manufacturer, in a 5-4 vote.
According to the Associated Press, the settlement would have “shielded” members of the Sackler family who owns Purdue Pharma from several civil lawsuits. Additionally, it would have given billions to combat the opioid epidemic.
