Structures are threatened as new fire in Washington County starts up, evacuation order lifted

CENTRAL, Washington County — Crews are still working to put out a wildfire in southern Utah that started Sunday afternoon.

The Central Fire is burning 15 acres in the town of Central in Washington County. Agencies from across Washington County responded to the scene with support from the air. Utah Fire Info also reported that there were structures that are threatened by the fire.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the fire is around Center Street. They say to completely avoid that area.
Evacuation notice
As of 7:16 p.m. Sunday night, an evacuation notice has been lifted, according to a Washington County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
Update 7:16 p.m.: The evacuation order is being lifted. Fire crews will still be in the area working and we ask everyone please be patient with them and give them room to work. Thank you all for your help.Update: The LDS church in Vey is being opened for temporary shelter for those effected by the evacuation order. Current evacuation order issued between Center Street and Mule Deer Rd, and east of Mountain View Dr.Fire in Central around Center Street. Please avoid the area. Fire crews and Deputies on scene working. We appreciate your patience.
The American Red Cross of Utah volunteers did put up an evacuation shelter in the nearby town of Veyo at 176 E. Center Street, which is a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building. It will continue to be used for temporary shelter for those affected by the evacuation order.
