SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning from noon to 9 p.m. Monday for much of central and southern Utah.
The warning encompasses parts of Washington, Iron, Beaver, Millard, Juab, Garfield and Kane counties and parts of the Colorado and Green Rivers.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Nicole DeSmet told KSL NewsRadio that the red flag warning is due to the forecast’s high winds and low humidity levels.
DeSmet said wind gusts in the warning area could reach up to 35 miles an hour.
“Any fires that do start in those areas are likely to spread very quickly,” she said.
DeSmet encouraged people to:
- Follow local fire restrictions.
- Fully extinguish campfires.
- Not park vehicles on grass and other vegetation.
- Make sure chains and loads are properly secure.
