Woman drowns at Little Dell Reservoir

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah — A Salt Lake City woman drowned at Little Dell Reservoir Tuesday night.

According to a press release, police recovered the body of 29-year-old Hailey Mason from Little Dell Reservoir at approximately 9:45 p.m.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports that at around 2 p.m. people at the reservoir called 911 after hearing and seeing Mason outside of her kayak crying for help. People attempted to help her but were unsuccessful before she became submerged.
Then, the Sheriff’s Office Canyon Patrol deputies called for the Search and Rescue Dive Team.
Multiple agencies including Search and Rescue, Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, and the Utah State Park Rangers responded. They used a combination of three boats equipped with sonar to locate the body. According to the press release, Mason’s kayak, life vest, and other belongings were recovered during the search.
“Thank you to the wonderful volunteers of the Search and Rescue team and our partners,” Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera said in the press release. “This outcome is tragic and our hearts are with the family as they mourn this loss.”
Following the incident, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office reminded people to always use flotation devices when they are out on the water.
