PROVO, Utah — An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that started near the mouth of Provo Canyon on Wednesday night.
According to Provo Fire and Rescue Capt. Jeanie Atherton the Provo Canyon fire started around 11 p.m. The fire burned on the northbound side of Interstate 189 where Canyon Road merges with University Avenue. Atherton said the fire was on the hillside to the east.
Andrew Adams with KSL TV was at the scene as firefighters fought the flames. A firefighter with PFR told Adams that when crews arrived, the flames appeared to be burning almost as high as the phone poles in the area.
Firefighters were asking bystanders if they saw anything that may have caused the fire to start, according to Adams.
Close to 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, Atherton reported that the fire was nearly out and firefighters were making sure embers didn’t start any additional fires.
Atherton said no structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
