GRANTSVILLE, Utah — A swimmer discovered a body at Grantsville Reservoir Saturday, two days after a different swimmer disappeared in a presumed drowning incident.
Body found after search for Grantsville drowning victim
Jon Smith, spokesman for the North Tooele Fire District, said crews believe the body found belongs to that of the missing swimmer.
“At 7:40 this afternoon, Tooele County Dispatch received a call from an individual at Grantsville Reservoir, who found an unresponsive male floating in the water,” Smith told KSL. “It is believed this is the same individual who was reported missing at the reservoir Thursday evening.”
Thursday night, winds picked up at Grantsville Reservoir, pushing two swimmers out into the water. One of the two made it back to shore to call 911; the other did not resurface. Friday, the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office and Utah Department of Public Safety crews searched for the missing swimmer using a boat equipped with sonar to identify specific areas to dive but did not find him. By late Saturday, they had called off the recovery efforts and re-opened the reservoir for public use.
Authorities did not yet provide the identity of the body found Saturday. We will update this story as soon as we learn more.
