ARUP Laboratories announces new research collaboration grant

SALT LAKE CITY — The ARUP Laboratories Institute for Research and Innovation announced a new collaboration grant. The Sherrie Perkins Research and Innovation Collaboration Grant will help fund laboratory medicine research.
According to a press release, research funded by the grant has the potential to “significantly impact patient care.”
The nonprofit’s new grant program will award applicants with up to $150,000.
“With this grant program, ARUP will fund innovation efforts that focus on improving laboratory medicine while also establishing partnerships with academic or industry collaborators,” said ARUP Laboratories’ chief scientific officer, Tracy George.
Per the press release, the grant is just the latest from ARUP’s Research and Innovation Institute. Founded in 2023, its mission is to advance diagnostic and prognostic technologies to improve patient lives.
“We hope to kickstart collaborations between ARUP Laboratories and other industry and academic partners, especially smaller companies that may not have as many resources,” said Leo Lin, an ARUP medical director.
What is ARUP Laboratories?
According to ARUP’s website, it was founded in 1984 by a group of University of Utah pathologists.
Since then, the nonprofit has expanded nationally. It continues to serve University of Utah Health facilities. Additionally, it serves Intermountain Health facilities.
According to the company’s website, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, ARUP’s then-chief medical officer, Julio Delgado, and director of molecular infectious diseases, David Hillyard, “were instrumental” in validating an early diagnostic test.
The company continues to conduct research projects, test new technology, and improve current testing methods.
