FARMINGTON, Utah — One parent in Farmington says he has big concerns after hearing his fifth grader’s classes at Farmington Elementary School will have 37 kids to one teacher.
Tune into Dave and Dujanovic at 9:05!
There are only two teachers for 74 students in Farmington Elementary School’s fifth-grade classrooms.
One parent, Jeffrey Keller, reached out to the school and the Davis School District.
Keller worries it’s too late for this year since school starts in one week, but he hopes speaking up now helps with future class sizes.
“Specifically for elementary schools, right?” said Keller. “I get when you’re at junior high and high school. You’ve got a lot of other schools funneling into those. You are going to have some larger class sizes.”
Keller worries some kids will fall through the cracks and suffer the consequences years later.
“You know maybe it is because I was one of 37 and was overlooked or didn’t get the opportunities or the attention that frankly I needed because I was falling behind in math or I was falling behind in English,” said Keller.
The Davis School District said it’s working on several options to address the concerns. In the meantime. Keller hopes the district can gradually reduce the number of students to be closer to the average for the district.
