SANDY, Utah — One man is in jail after a suspected road rage shooting in Sandy Sunday night. No one was injured.
Tony Larod Robinson was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and illegal discharge of a firearm.
“Mr. Robinson had two children with him in the car. That’s where those charges stem from,” said Sandy Police Sgt. Greg Moffitt. The children in the car have been reported to be Robinson’s.
Police said Robinson admitted that the shooting was not in self-defense but rather a lapse in judgment as he unloaded 13 rounds of ammunition.
The Utah Department of Transportation has seen an increase in road rage fatalities over the past few years.
This shooting happened after a new road rage law took effect on July 1. The new law allows the potential charges of an incident to be more severe.
