Suspect arrested in connection to Riverton homicide

RIVERTON, UT — Riverton Police have arrested 19-year-old Thomas Rose in connection with a homicide in the Monarch Meadows neighborhood.
Just before midnight on August 18, Riverton Police responded to a report of shots being fired in the neighborhood.
When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old man wearing a Kevlar vest, armed with a handgun and machete, with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The victim’s identity has yet to be released.
Detectives found a jacket with an ID linked to an Orem address. It led to the arrest and questioning of two men who were at the address.
Police said they found the situation “highly unusual.”
“Rose was taken into custody without incident he is currently being booked into jail. And the details and the homicide charges will be made available soon,” said Lee.
Lee credited the detectives’ use of DNA testing and other resources to determine that Rose was involved in the shooting.
“Riverton police department … are the heroes of this case. They’ve used extensive interviews and state-of-the-art technology and a lot of additional physical evidence that help point to Rose.”
Rose is currently being held at the Salt Lake County Jail.
Lee also added other individuals are currently being investigated for potentially causing interference to their investigation.
