SALT LAKE CITY — The amount of jobs in Utah has increased by more than 40,000 since August 2023.
According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services (UDWS), as of August 2024, the state’s economy added a cumulative 40,300 jobs over the past 12 months. That’s an increase of 2.3%. This brings the Beehive State’s current job count to 1,760,800.
The UDWS estimates Utah’s unemployment rate to be 3.3%. This means approximately 59,700 Utahns are without jobs.
“The labor market in Utah continues to expand at a healthy rate, even as the unemployment rate has ticked up,” said Ben Crabb, UDWS chief economist in a press release. “Utah still sees a strong labor market as most sectors of the economy have added jobs. Much of the rise in the unemployment rate can be attributed to new entrants into the labor market who are searching for a job, rather than due to an increase in layoffs.”
