SALT LAKE CITY — People who live near FrontRunner and other train crossings may start hearing more train horns at any hour of the day. The UTA is following the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) recommendation and suspending some quiet zones.
According to a Facebook post from Lehi City, FrontRunner and freight trains will now sound their horns at all at-grade crossings. Trains will sound their horns at crossings from Salt Lake City to Provo.
The post said the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) “found deficiencies” at some of the crossings. Due to this, some quiet zones will be suspended until all city crossings meet the new FRA standards.
“We understand that the increased noise from train horns will be disruptive, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” the post said. “While cities are working diligently to address the issues, the quiet zone cannot be reinstated until all crossings are fully compliant.”
