Video offers new clues into the death of a man found near Jordanelle State Park

HEBER CITY, Utah — Police have learned more about what led up to the death of a road rage victim found near Jordanelle State Park in September.

And the family of the man found dead is asking for the public to help identify the suspect if possible.

Police said a video shows Patrick Hayes driving home from his son’s home in Midvale, Utah at around 10:30 p.m on Sept. 25. He reportedly traveled on I-215 and I-80. He passed the Salt Lake County Gun Range in Parleys Canyon, police said, and then drove under Kimball Junction. 

Then the video reportedly shows Hayes making a right turn onto Shoreline Drive.

 

“But then he took the road to the right,” said Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby, “which goes to the day-use area, to a trailhead area. And that’s not where his home is.”

Rigby said Hayes parked, got out of his car, and then approached a Jeep Gladiator that had pulled up behind Hayes. Police were not able to identify the color of the Gladiator. The license plates are not visible.

The video reportedly shows the Jeep driving toward Hayes. Hayes avoids the Jeep, but then a single gunshot is heard.

Hayes’ family is asking the public for help identifying the driver of the Jeep Gladiator.

“We’re all incredibly hurt, and incredibly angry that there’s a coward out there that committed an unforgivable act. They’re running and hiding,” said Hayes’ son Aaron.
