SALT LAKE CITY — A Post Malone super fan in Utah dreamed of sharing the stage with him to play guitar. When the singer found out, he flew him out to play with him in New York.
“I’ve always been a big Post Malone fan,” Ian Kahng told KSL NewsRadio. “I became an even bigger fan when he moved to Utah. I have heard that he’s just a really awesome guy to interact with and I’ve heard some people run into him kind of more outdoor settings and I heard that he’s into fly fishing.”

After hearing that Post Malone often invites fans to perform with him, Kahng practiced tirelessly to learn the song “Stay” for the concert at Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre.
“I’m not a trained guitar player,” said Kahng. “I took one class in college and I know a few chords, but I heard the guy play and I thought to myself, ‘Hey, I could probably play that song.'”
Kahng bought a ticket to the concert just hours before it started. He then made his way to the front row with a sign to get Post Malone’s attention.
But — plot twist — security asked him to put it away.
Post Malone forgot to ask the crowd until the end of the song — and everyone pointed to Kahng.
“Everyone starts yelling and pointing at me and he just looks out at the crowd,” said Kahng. “[Then he] comes off stage, runs down to me, hands me some guitar picks and then tells me, ‘Hey, we’ll fly you out to any show’.”
Posty kept his word and flew him out to New York for his Jones Beach performance — all expenses paid.
What’s the highlight for Kahng? Sharing a beer on stage with his idol.
“We joked around a little bit, we shared a beer on stage,” said Kahng.
