MURRAY, Utah — The Murray School District hopes voters will approve a $125 million bond in November.
District Spokesman Doug Perry said spending $90 million to rebuild Riverview Junior High is the first priority. The school is 63 years old.
“[The bond would] enhance security measures and provide more flexible, classroom learning experiences that are more traditional, more modern with what education is doing these days,” said Perry.
The district would use additional funds to add a wing to Murray High School to help accommodate adding ninth graders to the student body. The bond would add about $132 a year to the average homeowner’s property tax.
This would only be the third general obligation bond in the Murray School District in the past 40 years.
“We have one of the lowest property tax rates among the school districts in Salt Lake County. I think we’re the second lowest and the tenth lowest in the state. So, I think we’re in a good position to ask,” said Perry.
If the bond is approved, construction will begin in January and both projects will be complete for the 27-28 school year.
