Roy man killed in home fire previously threatened to kill his mother

ROY, Utah — A Roy man who was killed in a mobile home fire earlier this month had previously threatened to kill his mother.
On October 3rd 71-year-old Janet Shaw and her 46-year-old son Jonathan Gunter died after a fire broke out in their home.

A document filed by detectives requesting a search warrant explains that Gunter had previously called police saying if they didn’t arrive soon he was going to kill his mother.
Police also explained that when they arrived at the home to fight the fire there was something blocking the door from opening.
A district court judge issued a search warrant shortly after. The warrant states that there is probable cause to believe evidence of arson and criminal homicide on the property.
