SALT LAKE CITY — Utah law says you can help someone fill out a ballot, but you must fill it out honestly to ensure it reflects their choices. However, if you help someone fill out their ballot, you can’t sign the ballot for them.
Davis County Clerk Brian McKenzie said the most important thing is to make sure the voter actually signs the ballot.
“Even if their signature is not fluid and as beautiful as they’d like to have, they do need to do the best that they can to make their mark,” McKenzie said.
If the voter adds a phone number or email, they can be contacted in case there are questions about the signature.
McKenzie said there are also other accommodations for the blind, deaf or non-English speaking voters. Those accommodations are available through your county clerk’s office.
Any voter can ask for help and their county clerk will provide assistance or advise them on how to get help.
