SALT LAKE CITY — A recent study on plastic chemicals in food identified a popular protein shake at the top of their list.
In a viral TikTok video, a user discusses a Consumer Report study that tested 85 different foods for traces of plastic chemicals.
The test revealed that Fairlife’s Core Power High Protein Chocolate Shake topped the list. The study found the protein shake contained nearly 25,000 nanograms of plastic chemicals per serving.
Director of Food Policy at Consumer Reports, Brian Ronholm wrote Fairlife a letter, urging the business to take action to reduce exposure.
“Fairlife, specifically, did not respond to our letter,” Ronholm said. “So, we don’t have a sense of whether they’re going to be taking any corrective actions, or if they have.”
Ronholm also shared what people can do to limit exposure.
“Avoiding plastic food storage containers, try to limit your fast food intake … we should be doing that anyway,” Ronholm said. “Our testing has found that some of the highest levels of plasticizes were found in fast food and fast food wrapping.”
At this time, Fairlife has yet to respond for comment or to the study.
