Two SLCPD officers injured while attempting to stop a bar fight

SALT LAKE CITY — Two officers from the Salt Lake City Police Department were injured on Friday while attempting to stop a fight.
SLCPD said in a news release that “several officers” responded to a call at 11:28 p.m. about a fight breaking out at a bar.
When officers arrived at the scene near 1700 S Main St, police said a second fight started outside of the bar just after midnight.
“It is estimated that 30 to 40 people began fighting with each other and officers,” the news release said.
According to police, officers attempted to stop the incident by using pepper spray.
“Officers and detectives from across the city responded to the incident to help safely, quickly and effectively address the issue,” the news release stated. “During the fight, two SLCPD officers were injured. Neither needed to go to the hospital.”
At this time, police have stated that it is not known why the two fights started.
Police also said up to six people were arrested with various charges. According to the news release, those charges included public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
