Weber County adopts Nordic Village reinvestment project

SALT LAKE CITY — During a Dec. 31 commission meeting, Weber County opted to reinvest in a project area in and around Nordic Valley Ski Resort. The project has been pursued by Nordic Village Venture, LLC.
Investments will be funded by property tax increases. Weber County said the money will be directed to long-term sustainability efforts and infrastructure.
For example, Weber County said the area will be getting a “much-needed” wastewater and water reuse treatment system and new water and sewer conveyance systems. Additionally, the project will fund road improvements and park and trail development.
Additionally, 50 employee housing units for Nordic Valley employees will be built during the project.
The project area is about 512 acres.
“The Nordic Village project is an excellent example of how [tax increment financing] can promote long-term economic and environmental sustainability through strategic development practices,” said Stephanie Russell, Weber County’s economic development director.
Additionally, Weber County said the project aligns with the Ogden Valley General Plan, which calls for “a variety of progressive resort developments.”
Paying for the Nordic Village reinvestment
According to a press release, Weber County, Weber School District, Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, and Weber Fire District will participate in reinvestments.
Each organization will participate for 15 years. Weber County said it will contribute 75% of the revenue to the project. The others will contribute 50% of the earnings from the tax increment.
Weber County expects the project to bring $283 million in residential spending and $160 million in new jobs.
