Semitruck catches on fire after police pursuit near Beaver

BEAVER — A police chase involving a semitruck closed down southbound traffic on Interstate 15 Thursday afternoon.
According to Sheriff Nathan J Curtis around 3:25pm a semitruck was called in for a reckless driving westbound on Interstate 70 at mile marker 67. At mile marker 25 a deputy tried to get the truck to stop. The truck failed to stop and was driving erratically.
Spikes were then used, but the truck continued south after reaching Interstate 15. Sheriff Curtis said that the truck was starting to smoke from driving on its rims and eventually stopped three miles north of Beaver.
The driver has been taken into custody and charges are pending.
After the semi was stopped, the vehicle caught fire. The flames were put out by the Beaver Fire Department and EMS.
