SALT LAKE CITY — Two men were stabbed by a man late Thursday in Taylorsville after he demanded money, according to police. The man fled afterward, prompting a search effort that was ongoing Friday morning.

According to Lt. Aaron Cheshire, the two men were driving just before 11 p.m. Thursday on 2700 West. They had to pull over because of a mechanical issue with the car, and stopped near 4200 South and 2600 West.

Cheshire said the men were then approached by a tall, skinny caucasian man with a hoodie on.  He asked them if they had any money, to which they replied they didn’t.

“The (man) produced a knife and demanded money from them. They provided (him), according to their statements, with a small amount of cash that they had on them, which didn’t appear to be a whole lot,” Cheshire said.

The man became upset and began “slashing at them with a knife,” he said. The victims were taken to the hospital with some “pretty deep” wounds and were released a short time later.

Meanwhile, Taylorsville police set up a perimeter where the Department of Public Safety helicopter and K9s from other agencies helped them search for the suspect, but the efforts were unsuccessful in finding him.
