LIMA, Peru — President Russell M. Nelson is visiting five nations of South America, beginning with a stop in Lima, the capital of Peru.

President Nelson and other church leaders met with Peru’s president, Martín Vizcarra.

Saturday, he spoke during a devotional to about 6,000 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, telling them about that visit with their country’s president.

“He thanked me for the wonderful conduct of you Latter-day Saints,” President Nelson said. “He thanked me for your being good citizens.”

At one point, the prophet thanked his interpreter, then told the audience he wanted to speak to them from his heart. Then, he switched to Spanish himself to address the crowd, which reacted enthusiastically.

In addition to Peru, church leaders plan stops in Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay before dedicating a new temple in Concepción, Chile, next Sunday.
