Riverton woman found dead in South Jordan

SOUTH JORDAN — Police says the death of a woman whose body was found in a field near Daybreak is “suspicious,” identifying her as a missing Riverton resident.
Police identified the victim as 26-year-old Kelsey Valeria Stone, saying her family had reported her missing late Monday night after she failed to meet them at a Christmas concert as planned.
Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray says Stone texted family members around 5 p.m. to say she was on the way, but she never arrived. Around 10 p.m., Gray says calls to her phone went straight to voicemail. The family reported her missing around 11:35 p.m.
Tuesday morning, a South Jordan city worker discovered Stone’s body in a field near 6000 West and 11075 South, outside of her car. According to South Jordan police officer Sam Winkler, the city worker was doing inspections around a construction area in the Daybreak area when the worker discovered the body.
Winkler says the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and the discovery are what led police to consider the death suspicious. Her car was towed by police to be searched.
Stone’s body has been taken to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.
