Avalanche at Cardiff Fork captures 6 people, injuring 3

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Six people were caught, and three of them were injured, in an avalanche in Cardiff Fork, located near Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Craig Gordon with the Utah Avalanche Center says about 6 inches (152 millimeters) of snow fell in a matter of about two hours on Sunday, and that’s on top of what the area received Saturday night which was anywhere from 3 to 5 inches (76 to 127 millimeters).
“So things stacked up really quickly, Gordon said. “Snow is a lot like people, it doesn’t like rapid change. It went through a rapid change with all of this additional snow and the avalanche danger spiked up.”
Six people reported caught and carried in an avalanche in Cardiff Fork. 3 have injuries. No one buried. More snow than expected, new snow avalanches are happening.

Utah Avalanche Center tweeted out that no one was buried and that there was more snow than expected.
The victims’ identities were not immediately known.
