The snowstorm was a surprise for many, causing significant delays, including for Delta Air Lines.
Delta wasn’t prepared to de-ice the airplanes.
A Delta Air Lines flight departing from Salt Lake International Airport was delayed for more than nine hours early Friday morning, stranding the passengers at the airport.
The flight to Oakland was originally scheduled to depart at 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Suzanna Cunningham says the airline instructed the passengers to deboard the flight at 2 a.m.
Cunningham says the airline refused to provide hotel rooms for the displaced passengers.
Without access to hotels or transportation, many passengers found the only available place to wait out the night: the airport floor.
Young children and elderly passengers were reportedly among those who spent the night on the floor of the airport.
A flight from Salt Lake City to San Diego was delayed for more than twelve hours on Friday.
Delta is apologizing to passengers via Twitter.
