Forbes has ranked Utah’s Gail Miller, 75, number 14 on its list of the richest “self-made women” in America.

Miller, owner and chair of the board of the Larry H. Miller Management Corporation, is Utah’s wealthiest resident, worth an estimated $1.5 billion according to the magazine’s June 2019 calculations.

Gail Miller and her husband, the late Larry H. Miller, at one time controlled an empire that included the Utah Jazz, dozens of car dealerships and even a chain of movie theaters. When Larry H. Miller died in 2009, Gail Miller assumed 100% ownership of those businesses.

In 2017, she transferred ownership of the Jazz to a trust in the family’s name, to encourage her family not to sell or move the basketball team.

She is also the author of the 2018 book, “Courage to Be You: Inspiring Lessons from an Unexpected Journey,” and has been widely recognized for her generosity in supporting Utah charities.

Gail Miller shares the #14 spot on the Forbes list with some well-known women in business. Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, Jin Sook Chang, the founder of Forever 21, and Kathy Fields and Katie Rodan, the co-founders of Proactiv and Rodan+Fields, are tied with Miller at number 14, each worth about $1.5 billion.
