NORTH OGDEN — The Vet Center Outstation in North Ogden has been renamed in honor of Major Brent Taylor, the town’s late mayor, who died while serving with the Utah National Guard in Afghanistan last year.
Flags ringed the center on North Washington Boulevard during today’s ceremony. Taylor’s family will be presented with a signed copy of the bill that renamed the center.
Brent Taylor’s widow, Jennie, told the crowd that no soldier wants his name on a building. But she hopes her husband’s name gets people to come to the center.
“I think sometimes people are not aware of those resources, and that’s on us to make sure the word gets out,” Jennie Taylor said.
Congressman Rob Bishop, who introduced the bill that got the center renamed for Brent Taylor, agrees. He said many veterans did not know there was a center that offered free counseling services and help with VA paperwork.
“I was talking to a veteran in the audience who said he didn’t know [the center] was here. We have a lot of services that can help people facing their life and post-military challenges. They should be able to use those,” Bishop said.
The center is located at 2357 N. Washington Blvd., North Ogden, 84414.
