WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Firefighters are investigating what caused a mobile home to go up in flames early Monday morning. The fire also damaged a nearby trailer.

The fire started around 12:15 Monday morning at the mobile home park on Oxford Park Drive. One of the people inside smelled smoke and evacuated the two others living there, according to West Valley City firefighters.

Deputy Chief Chris Beichner said there was a fire hydrant just outside the trailer, which was not working correctly.

“It was hard to open. We couldn’t get good water pressure … It definitely hampered some of our efforts. We do have 500 gallons of water on our engine. We ended up using multiple tanks,” Beichner said.

Firefighters also had to run a line at 3200 South so they could have enough water.

Nobody in either structure that was damaged was hurt. Three people and one dog will be displaced as a result of the mobile home fire. The Red Cross is providing assistance.
