PARK CITY, Utah– The Utah Symphony has announced the cancellation of the 2020 Deer Valley Music Festival.

Community partners, Summit County health officials and the Utah Symphony decided to postpone the 19-concert series over concerns about large public gatherings.

“Our first priority is the health and safety of our musicians, staff and the public,” said Patricia A. Richards, Interim President and CEO for Utah Symphony and Utah Opera.

Our decision has been made with careful consideration of state recommendations for reopening large public gatherings and on the advice of county health officials.”

In a survey conducted in 2019, the festival found 86% of respondents traveled outside of Summit County to attend a concert.

“Although it was a difficult decision, we all agree that pausing these events this year is in the best interest of the health and safety of our community, our guests and our staff members,” said Deer Valley President and COO Todd Shallan.

Festival officials are working on rescheduling concerts from the 2020 series. Those who have already purchased tickets will be issued new ones once the performance has been rescheduled. The symphony is asking those who cannot attend the new date to consider a full or partial contribution of their ticket value towards the symphony.

Big acts such as The Beach Boys, The Temptations and the Little River Band were slated to perform throughout the six-week festival.

The symphony says they hope to pick up the festival right where they left off in 2021.

“We look forward to presenting a renewed and vibrant outdoor season in summer 2021 when we can once again join together as a community over great live music,” said Richards.
