OGDEN, Utah — Police say they have a man in custody whom they suspect burned flags and painted graffiti on buildings and fences in an Ogden neighborhood.
According to a police affidavit, Bryan Nava, 19, of Ogden, and one other person “walked throughout a neighborhood [and] trespassed onto peoples’ properties to burn American flags.” The affidavit said Nava also used spray paint to tag buildings and fences with his graffiti moniker.
Ogden police said at least two of the burned flags were attached to a pole on a home. Others were described as being “on private property,” though not attached to a home directly.
According to police, Nava did not speak with investigators after his arrest, so they could not provide details about a possible motive.
Nava was booked into the Weber County Jail on July 1, 2020, on suspicion of criminal mischief/endangering human life, related to flags burned while attached to homes, tresspassing, abuse of a flag and graffiti.
Investigators continue to search for a second suspect, possibly a juvenile.
