DMV to cancel registration renewal reminder postcards

SALT LAKE CITY – The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is getting rid of the postcards reminding cars and watercraft owners to renew their registrations. In its place, the agency will send reminders via email.

Skipping the DMV and renewing vehicle registration online is relatively new, but those renewal reminder postcards are becoming a nuisance and costing taxpayer dollars.
The Utah State Tax Commission said boxes full of the postcards are returned as undeliverable every month and employees have to destroy the postcards.
To cut costs and increase convenience, like most mundane tasks these days, the DMV now offers annual reminders via email.
The postcard reminders will be discontinued as of September 2020.
