COVID-19 hospitalizations reach over 600, another 3,647 people are infected with the virus

SALT LAKE CITY– COVID-19 related hospitalizations reached a new high of 603, with 212 people currently in intensive care units, the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) reported Saturday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,765 individuals have been hospitalized. 

As of Saturday, Utah’s ICU capacity is at 88.9%, 35.1% of which is COVID-19 related. 

Another 3,647 people have tested positive for the coronavirus, resulting in a 25.4% single-day positivity rate. The 7-day rolling average for positive tests is 2,958 per day, with a 25.5% positivity rate. To date, 212,844 people have tested positive for COVID-19. 

Since Friday, 14,838 COVID-19 tests were administered. Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, 1,485,811 people have been tested. 

An additional 14 Utahns have lost their lives to the virus–ten females and four males. All but one of the deaths was over the age of 65. One male from Utah County was between the ages of 45-64. He was also a resident in a long-term care facility. Out of the 14 deaths, 11 were long-term care facility residents. Only three patients were hospitalized at the time of death. 

The total COVID-19 death toll in Utah is 939.
