SALT LAKE CITY — As of Wednesday, Utah providers have vaccinated more than 900,000 Utahns with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine — and a significant number of those people are fully vaccinated.

According to the latest figures from the Utah Department of Health, 589,997 Utahns have received just one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Another 328,509 are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19, either because they received two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or one dose of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

In total, that means 902,391 Utahns today have at least some protection against coronavirus via a vaccination.

Vaccinated in Utah: what you need to know

Access to the available COVID-19 vaccine opened up considerably with the announcement that as of Apr. 1, 2021, any adult Utahn can sign up to get vaccinated.

The state provides information on available doses in your area on its coronavirus website, here. To sign up, choose whether you want to receive the vaccine from your local health department, a medical provider or a local pharmacy, then enter your zip code to perform a search.

Most areas with available doses fill up quickly, but add new appointments each week. So Utah health officials recommend exercising patience if you can’t schedule an appointment to get vaccinated on your first try. Additionally, you can seek vaccination in any county, regardless of where you live.

A work in progress

State data shows Utah County lags slightly behind the rest of the state in terms of the number of residents receiving at least one vaccine dose. However, with a population that skews younger, many Utah County residents may be minors not yet eligible for the vaccine.

San Juan County has the highest rate of Utah residents vaccinated with at least one dose so far. Early in the pandemic, the region had one of the highest per capita rates of COVID-19 in the country, as the virus raged on the Navajo Nation.

How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus

COVID-19 coronavirus spreads person to person, similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:

  • Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
  • Don’t touch your face.
  • Wear a mask to protect yourself and others per CDC recommendations.
  • Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet).
  • If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities).
  • Obtain a flu shot.
