UPDATE: Rescue operation wraps up after Pfeifferhorn Peak avalanche

SALT LAKE CITY — A rescue effort that took much of the afternoon on Sunday was in the final stages by early evening. The teams had responded after an avalanche near Pfeifferhorn Peak.

The avalanche injured two people said Utah County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Spencer Cannon.

Both victims are off the mountain. One taken by ambulance to @IntermtnMedCtr and the other going by private vehicle. The other two skiers sustained minor injuries. @UtahDPS Tactical Flight Officer and @UACwasatch expert also now off the mountain. pic.twitter.com/J3LGQrZ7UI

The avalanche began late Sunday morning near Pfeifferhorn Peak. It is located above Little Cottonwood Canyon and Alpine on the border of Utah and Salt Lake Counties.

Four people were caught in the slide according to Lone Peak Fire District (Lone Peak).  However, only two people were injured by the avalanche. 

Lone Peak said that Engine 202, Rescue 201, Ambulance 201, and Batallion 201 responded to the rescue. And Lone Peak had help from Utah County Search and Rescue, a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter, and Lifeflight.
