WASHINGTON– Members of Utah’s congressional delegation say President Biden has made the country more partisan than ever, specifically referring to the president’s plans outlined in his speech Wednesday night, saying they are way too expensive and radical.

President Biden spoke to Congress about his call to expand federal programs, including universal preschool and two free years of community college. Altogether, the plan is an estimated $1.8 trillion. The president also spoke about ”

Utah’s delegation posted their reactions to President Biden’s remarks to Congress on social media.

Rep. Chris Stewart

Representative Chris Stewart says Biden offered bipartisanship in name only.

“Unfortunately, despite the president’s soothing tones of a return to normal, his legislative actions have been the most partisan I’ve seen during my time in Congress,” said Stewart.

Rep. Blake Moore

Representative Blake Moore has “grave” concerns that this agenda hurts his district and Americans across the country. He says Biden is not exemplifying the values or principles on which he ran.

Rep. Burgess Owens

Representative Burgess Owens said it was an honor to be a part of the committee to escort the president in. But he says the speech was all spin, with nothing about the crisis at the border or huge tax increases or job killing executive orders.

Utah Representatives say the president cannot unite the country because he is only appealing to the radical or liberal wing of his own party.

Utah Senators react

Senators Mitt Romney and Mike Lee say President Biden’s proposals add up to $6 trillion so far, and that is way too much money.

“He is spending like crazy,” said Romney. “That is an amazing amount of money, and it has the potential of jeopardizing our kids’ future and burdening them with decades of interest costs.”

“Unfortunately, this agenda will only serve to make Utah and our country less prosperous, less fair, and less free,” said Lee.

The two senators posted video messages for their responses.
