More than 65 drivers cited for speeds topping 100 mph over Memorial Day Weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Highway Patrol issued 2,027 speeding tickets issued over Memorial Day Weekend and 66 of those tickets were issued to drivers going over 100 miles per hour.
“If drivers think they’re going to come away with a warning, they need to think again. They will not be receiving warnings if they’re driving that fast,” Trooper Chris Bishop said.
UHP said they have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to speeds that high.

Overall, UPH cited 42 DUIs, ticketed eight reckless drivers, responded to 179 accidents, two of which were fatal, and issued 298 seat belt citations to drivers during Memorial Day Weekend.
Bishop said fatal crashes are already up 30% from where they were at this time last year, and the majority of deadly crashes in Utah are linked to speeding.
This problem, Bishop said, started last year while fewer people were on the roads, and they cited 5,238 people driving in the triple digits.
