Washington Terrace, Herriman announce water saving measures

SALT LAKE CITY — Two more Utah communities are announcing measures to help conserve water. In a tweet sent this week, Herriman City officials say they will temporarily pause new required landscaping through September 15th. This involves new single-family homes, townhouses condos and other commercial projects.
This will allow for landscaping to be placed during the cooler months rather than the dry, extreme heat of the summer months.
New landscaping, especially lawns, need consistent moisture and soil temperatures to germinate.

Washington Terrace said their water conservation measures include a new concept called ‘Tan is the new Green.’ That means the city will cut back to watering one day a week, two days a week in some high traffic areas and on sports fields. They are asking residents to not exceed 2 days a week in order to conserve water.
“WTC is cutting back to 1 day a week in some areas and 2 days a week on high use sports fields and high traffic areas of the city. Please do not exceed 2 days a week in order to conserve this resource. If you notice a problem with our system please kindly let us know so we can fix the situation quickly,” according to a city Facebook post.
Utah is currently under a record-breaking drought, already with triple digits temperatures across the Wasatch Front with less than a week until it is officially summer.
