HERRIMAN, Utah — Crews made quick work of a fire burning in the Rose Canyon area of Herriman that briefly threatened structures Friday afternoon, potentially started by construction workers.

Fire threatened Rose Canyon structures

The Unified Fire Department said the field fire started shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Friday. They requested multiple units to respond because of the fast-moving nature of the Rose Canyon fire.

According to Unified Fire, more than 60 firefighters worked hard to get the flames out as they threatened multiple structures. In all, about 7.6 acres burned, but no structures were lost, the agency said. At least one photo showed just how close the flames approached homes.

The fire resulted in the dispatch of both air and ground resources to the area, near 7300 West 14400 South.

Witnesses on the scene described the fire burning close to houses and new structures under construction before authorities got it under control.

Later, Unified Fire officials said they determined construction workers accidentally started the fire.
