Clean up continues in Cedar City after massive flooding

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Cedar City Mayor Maile Wilson declared a State of Emergency on Monday due to massive floods from storms that hovered over southern Utah this weekend. And a major clean-up is now underway in Cedar City to clear the debris from roadways, neighborhoods, and homes.
In a statement, Mayor Wilson said the city received over two inches of rain in approximately one hour. She said that that amount of rainfall, in portions of Cedar City, categorized the storm as a flooding event that happens only once in 500 years.
Public infrastructure, private residential homes, and businesses have been affected by the floods with some homes left uninhabitable.
Available resources
Mayor Wilson announced resources are available to those impacted by the floods.
Large roll-off dumpsters will be located at the Cross Hollow arena for people to deposit items ruined by the floods. The Iron County landfill will waive fees for flood-damaged items for at least the next week.
Emergency shelters have been set up by the American Red Cross, they are located at 61 North 900 West.
Sandbags have also been made available to the public for free at Cedar City and Iron County public works offices.
