LOGAN, Utah — Two females from Logan High School were confronted by a male suspect with a gun which prompted the school to go on lockdown. Logan City Police officers were dispatched to Logan High School Monday morning on a report that a man with a gun was in front of the school.

According to the press release on Logan City Police Department’s Facebook page, multiple officers responded. While en route they were notified the man had entered the front doorway. The high school was on lockdown for approximately 10 minutes, while officers worked to declare the school safe.

“During an interview, the male, who is identified as Kristopher Egbert, 36, of Logan, admitted he did point a 9mm handgun at the females because they had stolen a bicycle from his residence,” the release stated.

Officers were dispatched to Logan High School, located on 162 West and 100 South, at 11 a.m. When they arrived the man did not have a gun in his possession.

The investigation determined the man had a gun when he confronted two females. The two females were riding bicycles in a parking lot in front of the school when he approached them. The male suspect exited the truck he was driving and confronted the two females, ages 17 and 19. He confronted them about stealing one of the bicycles from his residence.

“It was reported he confronted these two with a handgun, which he pointed at them, commanding them to get off the bicycle and get on the ground,” according to the press release. The two females complied and ran away once the male suspect was putting the bicycle in his vehicle.

He then parked the truck and walked toward the school with a backpack that one of the females left behind. A witness to the incident stated they confronted the man. They told him he could not go into the school with a gun.

A witness to the incident

The male suspect replied that he did not have a gun and that it was a cell phone. “A third-party witness said they observed the man with a gun pointed at the females while they were in the same parking lot as the incident,” the press release said.

During the interview, officers identified the male suspect as Kristopher Egbert. He admitted he did point a handgun at the females. After Egbert confronted the females, he placed the handgun in his truck before he went toward Logan High School.

It was also determined the bicycle was stolen from Egbert’s residence and the thief of the bicycle is under investigation.

“Officers contacted the Cache County Attorney’s Office to review the case,” the press release stated. “It was determined to charge Egbert with 2 counts of aggravated assault [which is a] 3rd degree felony, and one count of disorderly conduct [which is] a Class C misdemeanor.”

Egbert has been booked into the Cache County Jail.
