Utah’s Winter Weather: Canyon winds and icy conditions for Wednesday

SALT LAKE CITY — Wind and icy conditions and power outages defined the lingering winter storm hanging over northern Utah on Wednesday.
One of the biggest parts of the weather story was the very strong canyon winds that were expected to stay on the strong side through Wednesday afternoon. In some instances, wind gusts of 50 miles per hour were reported.

The wind gusts peaked at 78 miles an hour in Farmington and 60 miles per hour in Ogden.

The better news is that the National Weather Service downgraded from a high wind warning to a wind advisory in Weber, Davis, Salt Lake and Utah counties.
That stays in effect until mid-morning on Wednesday.

The cold temperatures are also going to stick around. Weyman reports that temperatures will be about ten degrees colder than they normally are at this time of the year.
Rocky Mountain Power reported large power outages in Ogden and Riverdale on Wednesday morning. Nearly 2,600 homes and businesses were without power.
