Where to safely see wild swans in Utah this month

SALT LAKE CITY — Wild swans are making a stop in Utah’s wetlands during their spring migration. The swans will make a pit stop in Utah to get some rest before reaching their final nesting sites.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said both tundra and trumpeter swans will be easy to spot this March. DWR Regional Outreach Manager Mark Hadley encourages people to go see the wild swans this spring. He said the birds are “graceful,” “beautiful,” and easy to spot because of their white color.
Though the DWR said it would not host any events to view the swans, it did share some locations where the birds will be visible.
The Salt Creek Waterfowl Management Area in Corinne and the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in Brigham City were recommended by the DWR as great places to spot the wild swans.
The Salt Creek Waterfowl Management area is closed until September, but the Compton’s Knoll viewing area remains open.
Bird-watchers are encouraged to bring binoculars or spotting scopes to get the best view possible. The DWR asks bird-watchers to be safe when driving to find swans, and avoid stopping in the middle of the road to see the birds.
The Eccles Wildlife Education Center in Farmington also provides a swan viewing opportunity. The center features two taxidermized tundra swans available for close-up viewing.
