After traveling 800K miles, the Snowbird tram cabins will retire in 2022

LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — Snowbird will replace its famous red and blue tram cabins in Spring 2022.
The resort announced the new cabins built by a company in Olten, Switzerland are now on their way to Utah. They are a part of the celebration marking Snowbird’s 50th year in operation.
“As Snowbird celebrates its 50th anniversary,” said Snowbird President and General Manager Dave Fields, “we are recognizing both our storied past and making a thrilling upgrade to our iconic Aerial Tram.”
“The Tram and Snowbird have provided year-round excitement for five decades, but the new Tram cabins promise to take this excitement to a whole new level,” Fields said.
And a new level is exactly what some riders will have access to, once the new cabins are in place. Renderings show that part of the upgrade includes a rooftop balcony that will hold up to 15 people during the summer months. The resort said this feature will be the first such balcony in the United States.
Other expected changes include glass floor panels for the summer months, and a technological upgrade as well.
The new cabins should be fully operational for the resort’s summer season that begins in June. The last day to ride one of the original tram cabins will be April 3, 2022.
